Post 47 Activities:
Post 47 Provides services to our Veterans and community in the following areas:
Honor Guard: AMVETS Post # 47, together with AMERICAN LEGION Post # 91, Eastern Ct., Honor Guard is a Department of Defense Military Funeral Honors certified, including firing and graveside services for families of deceased veterans at each military funeral. The riflemen perform the military funeral custom of firing three (rifle) volleys. The then bugler plays taps. The Flag of our Country is folded and on behalf of a grateful nation, presented to the next of kin. This service is available for any veteran upon request by the deceased veteran family.
Pull Tab Program: Post # 47 with the help of area schoolchildren have been collecting pull tabs from aluminum cans for several years. The donated monies are then utilized to provide care packages to our service members.
Nursing Home and Veteran Hospital Visits: Second Vice Commander; James Neeland, coordinates visits to area nursing homes to visit veterans. Villa Maria Nursing Home, Plainfield Ct., Village Manor Nursing Home, Plainfield Ct., Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, Brooklyn, Ct.
