Post 24 Provides services to our Veterans and community in the following areas:

Americanism:  Helps Bantam American Legion Post 44 with their monthly All Wars Ceremony.  Transport veterans on a weekly basis.  Visit hospitalized, injured and ill veterans.   Members participate in 6 area parades and services annually.  School Flag poster and essay contests along with support of the JRROTC of Torrington High School. 

 

Military Funeral Honors:  Our members assist the Northwest Connecticut Military Final Honors Squads in performing these services.  The assistance is through the Veteran Service Office of Torrington and American Legion Post 38.

 

Holiday Fund:  Provide food, gift cards and assistance to local less fortunate veterans and their families.  This is done in partnership with American Legion Post 38, VFW Post 9086, Marine Corps League of Canaan and numerous donations from the community, business and personal donations.

 

Power Wheelchair Program:  We accept donated wheel chairs from the community and refurbish them, install new batteries as needed and issue to veterans or their family members.
 
 

Post 24 Activities:

 

Post 24 participated at the Cub Scouts PineWood Derby Races in Canaan, CT we built and raced a car against the Marine Corps League #42 of Canaan.  So far it is Post 24 - 2  MCL42 - 0.

Our 5th Annual Red, White and Blue Memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Litchfield, (corner of Route 202 and Rt. 118) At 1600 hours (4PM) May 23, 2010.  The theme for this years service is honoring Veterans of the Vietnam War.                

On January 31,  2010, we enjoyed our 2nd annual Awards/Ladies Appreciation Social at PSams in Torrington.  Attendance was about 75. The food was excellent, live Band and a number of awards were given including :
